Winter’s coming at Mt Hutt

We are all close enough to know just how devastating the quake has been, especially to those who have lost loved family members or friends and we offer our thoughts and prayers as lives, along with the city, are starting to be re-built.  We know that the quake has had an impact on many skiers in Christchurch and it will take time for them to know exactly where they stand with housing, work and all the other disruptions that they face.

We have been really lucky and had no damage from the quake at Mt Hutt or in Methven so it is business as usual for us.  We have a number of improvements underway across the mountain, all of which will be completed well before the snow arrives.  The really exciting development is all focused on the Towers Triple Chair.  A new trail at the bottom of the International Trail will provide better access to the base of the lift  and we have put in a fully automated snow making system right down the International Trail.  The new snow making will enable us to open this lift much earlier in the season and keep the trail in pristine condition.  We are also replacing the old diesel drive for the Towers lift with a more efficient and reliable electric drive.

One new project for the winter is to extract Rocky from Phil Johnson’s living room in Christchurch to the car park at Mt Hutt.  We’re not sure when we will be able to get to it but will keep you all posted on Ricky’s Face Book page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rocky/133667530034728
